It’s the beginning of the year and usually I’m extra pumped up to work on my fitness. Turns out I’ve been feeling the opposite.
Must have been that extra long break from work making me all lazy.
I haven’t been running in a couple of weeks because it’s too cold and I’d rather sleep in a warm bed. Poor excuses, huh?
Then tonight Chris and I had plans to go to the gym after work, but I walked in the door and said, “Maybe we should just stay home and I’ll cook dinner! After all it’s going to be super packed with all the new folks, so we might as well avoid the crowds.”…Another silly excuse.
Luckily though, while I’ve had plenty of excuses we did manage to use our 12 day break from work to get in some great strength training. We went to the gym five times and got in really good full body workouts. All while it was nice and quiet at the gym due to the holidays.
And I’m telling you and myself now that I will get up tomorrow morning and run. Or else…you and Moose will yell at me, right?
Anyway I thought it was funny that my usual let’s kick this year’s butt attitude was slightly different this January. I don’t think it’s anything to worry about, rather I think it’s more that I’m already in a good place with my fitness and taking a few days off doesn’t bother me nor does it set me back.
So while we may be in a hurry to knock the socks off of our goals, there’s no need to get burned out too early on in the game. I have several things I want to work on and I can’t accomplish them all immediately and at once.
365 days is a marathon, not a sprint.
How do you like to start tackling your resolutions in the new year?
HAHA Moose’s expression in that picture is PRICELESS. I know a lot of people go all out in January but you should be proud that you stay fit all year long! That’s more than most of us (myself included) can say.
I’m going to be a bad influence and agree… it’s too flippin’ cold in the morning. I jogged to t he gym at 4 this afternoon and it was STILL too cold.
I haven’t been very motivated this past week. I am so off schedule and off my marathon training plan schedule. I was suppose to run a 7 mile tempo run this afternoon however my excuses included 1) too cold and too late getting off work to run outside 2) can’t run on the treadmill at the gym because they have a 30 minute time limit on the treadmills and the gym is prob. packed.
I am planning on waking up early to get the run in before work tomorrow but I am terrible with 5 AM wake ups.
Good Luck!
I’ll help get you out the door tomorrow!! I’m doing my long run (10 miles) in the morning before work and the forecast is looking like 20 degrees. You can do it!!
Moose is the cutest thing ever! I love his expression in that photo. I’ve been slow starting this year too… I feel like I need a break from the break!
